Antonino Stylists on “Live in the D”

On March 25, 2016, the talented stylists from Antonino Salon and Spa in downtown Birmingham treated four models to “age-defying” makeovers on WDIV’s “Live in the D” morning show. The four models already looked beautiful, however after the quick 30 minute makeover, they looked even better. Two of the models updated their looks by adding a Sheri Rene’ hair enhancement, making their hair look fuller and creating “temporary” bangs, one model received a new haircut that softened her features and the other simply had her hair “loosened up” to create movement.

Anthony Marsalese, owner of the upscale Antonino Salon and Spa in Birmingham, Michigan, just returned from Intercoiffure’s Fall Atelier in New York City. The two-day event, held at the Waldorf Astoria, is by invitation only and is the premier event of the year in the beauty industry. Anthony has been a member of the prestigious organization for over ten years and hasn’t missed an atelier yet.

This year there was a “surprising trend” says Anthony, “two of the biggest presentations featured only men”. “Most people used to think of only women when they conjured a vision of Fall fashion, but that is quickly changing” said Anthony, “the day of the ‘metro-sexual’ is over and the idea of men visiting salons and spas has finally become mainstream and we’re finding more and more men now realize the value of looking and feeling their best”.

The percentage of male to female customers at Antonino Salon has doubled over the last few years as more and more men are beginning to color their hair and treat themselves to manicures, pedicures and other specialized spa services.

 

So, ladies, the time has come for the other half of the world’s population to share the runways and headlines in the fashion world.

Balayage, An Antonino Specialty

The stylists at Antonino Salon and Spa were treated to another advanced education seminar on August 19th.

This time it was to perfect the art of Balayage. This special hair coloring technique was designed to create very natural-looking highlights that grow out without a noticeable and obvious root. Meaning “to sweep” in French, balayage emerged in the 1970’s in Paris and has grown in popularity ever since.

When hair is colored using the balayage technique, highlights are painted on by hand in a sweeping motion that moves from the base of the head to the tip of the hair. At the base, hair color is applied very lightly, while at the tip, the color is applied heavily, creating a chunky highlight that looks naturally sun-kissed. The end result is a natural and beautiful color that has a diffused root line as it grows out, so roots are less noticeable and require less maintenance than traditional highlights.
