Antonino Salon’s owner, Anthony Marsalese and our family of talented stylists were the topic of a recent blog post written by the beauty industries most famous hairdresser and educator, Vivienne Mackinder.

We are honored and thrilled to be a part of her blog which reaches thousands of professionals all over the world.

Antonino Salon Launches New Advanced Education System

 

Antonino Salon stylists have always been held to a high standard of advanced education and professionalism and we are very proud to announce that we’ve raised our own bar once again.

Teaming up with Vivienne Mackinder, one of the world’s finest hairdressers, Antonino Salon stylist’s recently completed a rigorous 17 week advanced hairdressing course. Each week stylists worked together watching web videos detailing very precise classic hairstyling techniques taught by the legendary hairdresser. During this innovative course, our stylists would recreate the “style of the week”, then submit it for review to Vivienne Mackinder herself. She would then personally rate their techniques in both technical and creative categories and offer individual advice.

“The beauty of the course is that it is designed for all stylists, whether they’ve been in the business for 20 years or 20 minutes”, said Anthony Marsalese, owner of Antonino Salon, adding “it pushed us out of our comfort zones and made us all realize that there is always room for improvement”.

Upcoming courses include advanced hair cutting for women and men, advanced hair coloring, additional styling techniques, including Antonino’s signature “French Blow dry” and a course on professionalism.

We are proud that all our stylists understand the importance of staying at the top of their game and they continue to learn the newest trends so they can pass them onto each of our guests.

The first half of 2014 has been very exciting at Antonino Salon and Spa and the second half promises to bring even more excitement.

We began the year introducing our wildly popular Blow-Dry “Bundles“. Available in packages of four, eight, twelve and twenty, Blow dry bundles help our guests look and feel their best and save them money too.

We also raised the bar on advanced education requirements for our stylists. With training by the world’s finest hairdresser, Vivienne Mackinder, Antonino stylists completed their first semester; a challenging 17 week hands-on  course specializing in advanced hairdressing techniques. Next up? Another 17 weeks of advanced hair cutting techniques.

Antonino Salon and Spa also underwent a makeover. Six months of planning paid off when in two short days, the salon completely reinvented itself. Now, when guests first enter the salon, they are greeted immediately by one of our concierges at our new Welcome Center. We also created new retail, makeup and skin care centers, refaced our color bar, added new lighting and developed a new layout for our styling stations. You can see our new look by taking a virtual tour of the salon.

Watch for more events in the second half of 2014, including a new software system that will make your visit with us even better. Guests will be able to book appointments, shop and even check out from the comfort of their stylist’s station. You’ll also be able to shop our virtual store and book appointments on-line from anywhere in the world.

In the Fall of 2014, we plan on introducing “Club Antonino”. Members will enjoy many benefits, including complimentary blow-dries and treatments, discounts on hair and skin care products, special pricing on salon and spa services. plus many more monthly surprises.

Inspiration From the Best

       “Hairdressing is a practice, you have to keep practicing throughout your entire career or you won’t succeed”: Words of wisdom from Nino Genna, Anthony Marsalese’s uncle, who recently retired from hairdressing after more than 70 years in the profession. Also words of advice that motivated Anthony to submerge himself in an intense five-day workshop last October.

       “Five on Five”, the intimate workshop taking place in the Hamptons is intended to take people out of their comfort zone and challenge them to new and creative techniques and teach leaders how to be effective mentors.

       Led by Vivienne Mackinder, one of the most highly respected international leaders in the hairdressing profession, the workshop only accepts five people to work side by side the award winning hairdresser for five days. When Anthony visited however, he got lucky, three people cancelled the week before; he only had to share the experience with Vivienne Mackinder and one other stylist.

“The education, inspiration and creativity that Vivienne shared has changed my life” says Anthony. “Her system of teaching is simple, yet it brings to a new level of understanding to the art of hairdressing”. Learning everything from technical razor cutting to creating a “perfectly, un-perfect up-do”, Anthony brought home a wealth of knowledge and inspiration.

       All of Antonino Salon’s stylists and assistants will soon be inspired too. Beginning January 2014, our entire staff will challenge themselves to Vivienne Mackinder’s “HairdesignerTV”, a new, innovative on-line education system, where they will be taught and inspired by Vivienne Mackinder herself. They will learn her techniques, practice them, submit them on-line and receive first hand advice from one of the hairdressing world’s most famous hairdresser.

We look forward to continue offering new creative ideas and techniques to all our guests and can’t wait to share them with you.

With 12 of our stylists in attendance, the stylists from Antonino Salon and Spa had a major presence at this year’s Intercoiffure-America’s Spring Symposium in Hollywood, Florida on May 19 & 20.

The Symposium, at The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel, included runway shows, educational demonstrations and “hands-on” training. Highly respected educators such as Tom Despenza, Jo Blackwell, Belinda Gambuzza, Vivienne Mackinder and Lauren Gartland were only a few guest artists that shared their knowledge with the more than 300 attendees.
Intercoiffure-Mondial, an exclusive organization representing 3000 salons from 55 countries, is truly a label of international quality. The organization is made up of beauty industry leaders, including our own Anthony Marsalese. Found in such cities as Paris, New York, Tokyo, Berlin, London, Rome and of course, Birmingham, Michigan, these leaders are fashion orientated, keen in expanding their profession and ready to share their knowledge as part of the respect of moral values.
We at Antonino Salon and Spa are very proud to be a member of this prestigious organization and equally as proud of our salon family that came home with an abundance of knowledge, fresh ideas and motivation.

We are looking forward to attending the Intercoiffure Fall Atelier at the Waldorf Astoria in New York in October, 2013, so we can once again inspire, inform and make sure all our salon guests are up to date on the most current fashion and beauty trends.
