Antonino Salon and Spa is very grateful to have such wonderful guests visit us. From time to time, we have the opportunity to share stories that truly change lives and contribute to the betterment of our world.
This week we would like to share the story of a wonderful family and how they turned a personal life challenge into an opportunity to help people facing cancer better deal with their illness.
Imerman Angels was created on the belief that no one should have to fight cancer alone and without the necessary support. At 26 years old, Jonny Imerman was diagnosed with testicular cancer and began his fight against the disease. Throughout his experience, Jonny was lucky enough to have loving support from his family and friends but had never met anyone his age who was a cancer survivor. He wanted to talk to someone just like him, someone who truly understood, and was intimately familiar with his experience. In short, he was looking for someone who had already beaten the same type of cancer. This was the beginning of Jonny’s vision and in 2003, it became a reality when he founded Imerman Angels.
Imerman Angels carefully matches and individually pairs a person touched by cancer (a cancer fighter or survivor) with someone who has fought and survived the same type of cancer (a Mentor Angel). Cancer caregivers (spouses, parents, children and other family and friends of fighters) also receive 1-on-1 connections with other caregivers and survivors. These 1-on-1 relationships inspire hope and offer the chance to ask personal questions and receive support from someone who is uniquely familiar with the experience. The service is absolutely free and helps anyone touched by any type of cancer, at any cancer stage level, at any age, living anywhere in the world.
As if helping people cope with their illness wasn’t enough, Jonny’s mother, Jane Imerman Ruzumna and his brother Jeffrey Imerman decided to take their mission a step further.
Jane always knew that the purest foods are the healthiest and she has always cooked and baked that way for her family and friends. But after Jonny’s diagnosis, she and her family started to learn even more about the importance of organic foods and the negative effects that artificial preservatives and GMO’s have on the body. They started to experiment and began creating meals and baked goods that are 100% organic. All of their family and friends loved them, so one day they asked themselves “why not share these delicious treats with more than just family and friends?”It was then that they decided to share their delicious cakes with everyone and founded The Imerman Cake Company. While not baked in her own kitchen, they are still made with original recipes, personal care and attention. Each delicious organic cake come in environmentally recyclable cake boxes and to top it off, a portion of each sale is donated to Imerman Angels.
