Shag Me Baby!
The 2015 Shag Haircut

The 2015 Shag

We are happy to report that the shag is back. Since hitting the runways in New York and Paris this winter, the rocker inspired haircut has replaced the beach waves popular on catwalks over the summer.

“The biggest difference between the 2015 shag and the shag made famous by Joan Jett in the 1980’s is its structure” says Anthony Marsalese of Antonino Salon and Spa in Birmingham, Michigan. “Although it’s still piecey and textured, it is more defined and much softer”. He continues with “shag’s in the past have been shoulder length with feathering on the top and sides with a full crown, but the new versions can be chin length or shorter and are much narrower”.

After receiving the modern shag, it’s important to style it with appropriate products to achieve the maximum effect. Moroccan Oil’s Root Boost and Hydrating Style Crème are good used together or a cocktail of Texture Maker and Volupt Spray by Sebastian are great when blow drying the hair. Finish the style off with pomade such as Oribe’s Rough Luxury or a soft, touchable hairspray.

All the stylists at Antonino Salon and Spa have been extensively trained on how to create the new shag. So, be sure to stop in or request an appointment to find out if the hair cut is right for you and to see why Antonino Salon and Spa is the best salon in Birmingham.
