2015 has been a good year for Antonino Salon and Spa. Along with celebrating 30 years in business, the salon was named Best Salon in Hour Detroit’s Best of 2015 issue. So, on July 20, the staff of Antonino Salon and Spa celebrated by going on a “surprise” field trip. Beginning in Birmingham, everyone loaded a bus from The Detroit Bus Company and headed to one of Detroit’s best lunch places; Mudgies. Located in Detroit’s historic Corktown district, Mudgies is an authentic artisan deli that has been voted best deli for six consecutive years.

After a delicious lunch of various sandwiches and appetizers, everyone boarded the bus and began a tour of the city of Detroit.

“We wanted to educate our younger stylists to the history of Detroit, and expose everyone to the new and exciting things happening in the city”, says Anthony, owner of Antonino Salon, adding “as hairdressers, it’s important to know about all the happenings in our great city so we can share them with our guests”.

With stops at Lincoln Street Art Park and Rivard Plaza and drive-by tours of Michigan Central Station, the Boston Edison district, the Ford Piquette Plant, the D.I.A., Cass Corridor, the Dequindre Cut and Lafayette Park, the staff learned many interesting facts about the city that they never knew before.

After the tour, everyone was treated to a private tour by local artist, William Singer of one of Detroit’s newest hot spots, The Red Bull House of Art; a gallery that breaks down the barriers between artists and their next greatest body of work by removing financial and institutional constraints and presenting the tools, space and wings necessary to unleash their utmost creative side to the world.

The fun day was capped off at Detroit City Distillery where everyone was treated to one of their signature cocktails, created with small batch artisanal whiskey, gin and vodka using only the finest local ingredients sourced directly from farms nearby and tasting rooms located in Detroit’s famed Eastern Market.
